2017 must be a better year. And we have to come back to life. But we won't, unless we come back to the stage... so it is our great pleasure to inform you that Riverside will go back to playing live this year.
After two very special evenings in February, which, for obvious reasons, are going to be unique and one of a kind, we have planned two legs of a special "Towards the Blue Horizon Tour". The first one will begin in April and May. The second one will start in the autumn and we'll visit more European countries.
During "Towards the Blue Horizon Tour" we will play in a new live line-up with a guest guitarist who will make our music sound the way it should, not only because he's a great musician but, most of all, because he's got the kind of modesty and humility about him which has always been very important to us on stage. Additionally, we're going to present a lot of compositions which we have not played live before. Our concerts will also be filled with emotions we haven't felt before. Together with you, we want to dive into this and make each composition sound more mighty than ever.
We're becoming a different band, more mature, more serious, more experienced. Piotr is gone, but he will always be with us and we are still a live band. Which we're going to prove soon during our "Towards the Blue Horizon Tour".
Remember, "This is not the end, this is not the time.”

Mariusz is finishing the recording of the fifth Lunatic Soul album. Its release has been scheduled for September 2017 and, as we read from the artist himself, the album is going to be different both in terms of music and colours. The theme has been inspired by personal events and the graphic design is going to dominated by red.
The new Lunatic Soul album will be released on Kscope worldwide and on Mystic Production in Poland.
One of the most fascinating things about being an artist is the possibility to create your own alternative world. A world in which you can lock yourself up as if it were a box and, with your knees under your chin, hide away from the non-alternative world.
One of the most graceful things for an artist is the possibility to create an alternative world inspired by the disgracefulness of the real world. And the more disgraceful the world is, the more room there is in the box. You can even stretch your legs and, in general, have more freedom to move so you are stronger after you get out of it.
And the strength translates to greater self confidence. Self confidence – to greater creative audacity. The boundaries and fears disappear somewhere and instead there is a need to introduce greater changes. And although I’m still a conscious prisoner of my own aesthetic, this time you can really hear some differences. My soul and body demanded that I settle accounts with the recent past, piece together what had been scattered, glue up the broken bits, stitch up the tears. Tell a story of how it felt when everything shattered into smithereens.
Perhaps because of those sharp edges the music will not be like it was before. Lunatic Soul has changed. It’s been transformed and entered the world of completely different colours. They’re still dark but not so conservative.
I’ve been working on this album since April 2016. I’m entering the last stage of recording. The last fillers, improvements, and vocals. Initially, I had planned a double album but I have made a relevant selection. I don’t want to spread myself thin – I’m leaving the essence of what’s best. Of what I’ve always wanted to be the reflection of my soul. “I did not look good in red”, I once wrote in reference to the cover of one of the albums.
We wish that the coming 2017 brings you health, joy and peace, and a wealth of great musical experiences which we're hoping to bring you as well.
2016 has not been a good year, we've been through a lot together but in spite of all, we have managed to put certain plans into practice and pave the way for new experiences. All this wouldn't have happened if it wasn't for your continuous support, for which we are very grateful. Thank you!
Next year, Riverside will play live again. We'll start from two special evenings on 25th and 26th February, which will be both a farewell and a beginning of a new way. We're going to tour, in a new line-up, in a new place, in a new time. And we're also going to start working on new music.
We are hoping to be able to come back to life and be a part of what will make 2017 better for you. After all, the darkest hour of all is the hour before day and there's always calm after the storm.
It gives us great pleasure to announce that today is the release date of another album co-created by Mariusz Duda.
Somewhere beyond Riverside and his solo project, Lunatic Soul, he managed to find some time for a completely different, very rock-oriented band called Meller Gołyźniak Duda. Their debut album, full of dirty rock riffs as well as melodies and space, is titled "Breaking Habits" and Mariusz sang, played the bass, and wrote all the lyrics on it.
Here is the line-up: Maciej Meller - guitar Maciek Gołyźniak - drums Mariusz Duda - bass guitar, vocal
The artwork was prepared by an incredibly talented Polish painter and graphic designer, Jarek Kubicki. "Breaking Habits" is released on Rockserwis.
1. Birds Of Prey 5:20
2. Feet On The Desk 5:46
3. Shapeshifter 3:30
4. Breaking Habits 5:42
5. Against The Tide 4:25
6. Tattoo 4:16
7. Floating Over 9:52
8. Into The Wild 4:44
Our first concert after the break, which we are going to play for you on February 25th, 2017, in Progresja club in Warsaw, was sold out in one day! Due to huge demand, we'd like to announce another date. On the following day, February 26th, we're going to play another concert. The tickets will go on sale on Monday (14.11) and they will be available only on Progresja club website, in the club and in Vintage Vinyl shop.
On March 6th, 2004, Riverside performed for the first time in a new line-up. Due to huge demand, on the following day, March 7th, we played another concert. "Two concerts in Progresja" are going to happen again after 13 years, in a new place, at a new time, with emotions we have not felt before. Thanks to all of you who are going to come and see us on the 25th and 26th of February 2017. These will be extraordinary and unforgettable evenings.
A few days after the first anniversary of Piotr's death, on 25th February 2017, we are going to play our first concert after the break. The concert, which will be both the most import and and the most emotional for us, is going to take place in the club which has been connected with Riverside for many years, in Progresja in Warsaw. The concert, to which we have invited a few of our friends, will mark the beginning of a completely new chapter in our history.
25th of February 2017 will be marked by a very special and unique event. For Grudzień, for Riverside, for each of us.
Tickets will go on sale on November 7th 2016. You will be able to buy them in the club, Vintage Vinyl shop and on Progresja club website.
First of all, we would like to thank you very much for your support and for showing interest in our new release, "Eye of the Soundscape". We hope that you like our instrumental journey and that you will enjoy a lot of memorable moments while listening to it.
We would also like to let you know that we have started rehearsing again. The beginning was difficult but we're slowly finding ourselves in our new reality. We are rehearsing in preparation for the special gig which will mark the anniversary of Grudzień's death. We're planning to play on Saturday, February 25th, in Progresja in Warsaw with our guitarist friends and other guests. We'll let you know soon when and where to get the tickets.
And in the meantime, thanks again for positive feedback and good words!
October is one of my favourite months. Not as gloomy as November but it's no longer September which always reminds me about the passing of time and getting older. In October I buy a lot of notebooks, the ones with hard covers and plain sheets, and I make plans for the coming year, or two, or three. In October I usually get a "positive reflection", because I make a summary of things that have happened and I go through the previous notebooks, the ones that have been scribbled in and crumpled - the past future plans. In present tense.
The year 2016 has mangled me a little. Piotrek in February. My Dad in May. Additional personal issues in the meantime. Somehow, I've managed to survive, finalise many of my earlier plans, and still keep my head up. A lot is happening so let me put it together here and make sense of it all both for you and for me.
The band is now a trio. We have made an official announcement about it because I know that we can pull through as a trio. We will be making another album next year. Without pressure. But before we start, let me say one thing: I will do everything to keep the heart and soul of Riverside music in the right place.
We have released "Love, Fear and the Time Machine" in 5.1, and we are going to release "Eye of the Soundscape". It's actually not long until it's out on October 21st. I am very happy about this album for many reasons (of which I will tell you more in a separate comment closer to the date). We are also publishing our biography, "High Resolution Dream". Maurycy Nowakowski has done a great job, most of all, he motivated us to finish all the interviews. We have opened ourselves up in that book but since we're all about honesty in our music, we have to be honest here too. The book will be published in mid November (Polish version only... at least for now). Gigs? Towards the end of February 2017 Riverside will play the first gig after the break. We'll let you know about the tickets soon. It will undoubtedly be a very emotional and stirring event for all of us but I believe that we will be ready for it.
Soon, a videoclip for "Shine" will be released. It was prepared by Sightsphere (the people who did the "Found" clip, so no worries, we're in good hands :)). "Shine" comes from, let me say that again, our newest release, a double instrumental album we have always wanted to have in our discography. I'm looking at it right now and I must say... it's a beautiful thing.
Meller Gołyźniak Duda
Maciej Meller – guitar, Maciej Gołyźniak – drums and Mariusz Duda – bass guitar and vocal. We have named our project "Meller Gołyźniak Duda" because we couldn't come up with a better name ;) What is it all about? Three years ago, Maciej Meller, whom I had known from the time of Xanadu and Deep River, invited me to join his project. I agreed but kept missing deadlines. First I couldn't because I was finishing the new Lunatic Soul album. Then I couldn't because I was finishing the new Riverside album. And then I couldn't because everyone died on me and I didn't feel like doing anything. But we finally made it happen and the album called "Breaking Habits" will be out on November 18th this year. It's a completely different music world. Very dirty rock live kind of playing. We recorded the whole album live in the studio, reel to reel, and I added vocals later. It's released by Rockserwis. You can find more information about it on the Facebook profile of the band.
I know that I have already posted pictures from the studio. There have also been brief comments on various subjects but nothing specific so far. It's still too early for details but I can already say this: the fifth Lunatic Soul album will be released in the spring of 2017. In April or May. I still don't know myself when. But the album has already got a title and I know that it will be a very intimate and a really powerful release. By the way, it will also be the longest album I have ever done (after EOTS, that is).
As I said, I have the title but I will not reveal it yet. I have an idea for the lyrical content too and this I can tell you about. The album will be about coping with the death of someone close to you. It won't be about wallowing in misery, it will be about how to get back on your feet. I need a positive message. So it will be about death again (as all the LS albums) but from the other side.
The new Lunatic formula will be a little different too, more electronic, even more... alternative (?), and the most musically daring of them all. I will venture to claim that it will be the most daring of all the albums I have released so far. I'm definitely dealing a new hand here. Usually, I was making "Lunatics" between Riverside albums, between tours. This year, because we had cancelled all our concerts, I had the time to think everything through more carefully. The new Lunatic Soul will be a very rich album musically and probably the most emotional too.
There is nothing more beautiful about being a musician than the possibility to create your own music worlds. I know that, within reason and proper aesthetics, you can have a few of them. Creating something out of nothing, dressing it up in colours, collecting and sorting it up. Putting on your shelves such worlds of paradoxes, on the one hand stripped of all boundaries and determinants, and on the other, very carefully put together. Planning certain things two, three, ten years ahead, looking at different situations from a broader perspective allows for creating universal, more valuable worlds. I'd like to create something like that. Something meaningful. Something that helps not only me but others as well.
So thank you all for your faith and loyalty. For being interested and being there for me. Thanks to you I can still create and feel that I'm not doing it only for myself. Thanks to you October keeps getting better every year and I am crazy excited about future plans. I keep buying the silly notebooks and I really feel that in spite of everything, in spite of all the shitty stuff around, life is truly beautiful.
Riverside has always been my musical home. Since my first rehearsal with the guys in 2003 I have known that I joined the people who have the same goal in life, the same power and the same sensitivity to music I always expected from being in a band. I looked back and saw some great time with friends, not only in the studio, but on tours, concerts, and everywhere else. It was both hard and enjoyable work, yet the bridge we walked has swayed.
Recent events have shown that life is an interesting player that can sometimes surprise us and attack where it is least expected. Check... but not mate. We have decided that despite the changes, we will stick together and continue to do what we do.
Latest events have pushed me to create a musical distraction from what I have been doing so far. To this musical home of ours I am now adding a new part, my part, where I will create my own world of music - my solo project.
The idea of going my way was born in my head a long time ago. I needed time to get mature enough to find the direction and put everything together. Tomorrow I am going into the studio.
What will it be like? For sure there will be room for the ambient part of my soul. It will be spatial and melodic. I will be revealing more secrets piece by piece and leave the rest to your imagination. All things associated with the new project and my activity as a musician will appear on the newly created official facebook Michał Łapaj which you are invited.
October 21st, 2016 will mark the release of “Eye Of The Soundscape”, a complementary instrumental album by the band, via InsideOutMusic. The release features cover artwork by Travis Smith and includes 13 experimental and highly atmospheric compositions, which showcase RIVERSIDE’s ambient electronic side.
The release’s opening track, “Where The River Flows”, is available as of today online as first single via the streaming / digital download outlet of your choice or can also be checked out here:
Mariusz Duda checked in with the following comment about the track: “This composition shows what the new RIVERSIDE album is about. Long, spacey soundscapes and the marriage of electronic and organic music. In my opinion a perfect introduction to our ambient and instrumental world. One of the last four compositions with Grudzien. One day we will all meet where the river flows”.
“Eye Of The Soundscape” compiles all the special instrumental RIVERSIDE tracks previously used as bonus material for the “Shrine Of New Generation Slaves” and “Love, Fear And The Time Machine" albums, alongside rare cuts as well as 4 new songs (“Where The River Flows”, “Shine”, “Sleepwalkers” and “Eye Of The Soundscape”) into a massive playing time of +100 minutes, which will be available as 2CD-Mediabook, 3LP (With both CD’s as bonus and an etching on Side F!) or as Digital Download.
1. Where The River Flows (10:53)
2. Shine (04:09)
3. Rapid Eye Movement (2016 Mix) (12:40)
4. Night Session – Part One (10:40)
5. Night Session – Part Two (11:35)
The album’s physical formats (as pictured above!) are available to pre-order from the InsideOut Shop, including limited editions of the 3LP on white vinyl (100x copies) and on light blue vinyl (200x copies).
We'd like to thank you again for your friendship and support throughout this most tragic time for us and we'd like to officially announce that we have made a decision about our future.
We have decided that we are not going to do a casting for a new guitarist. Thus we have ceased to be a quartet and have become a trio. In this line-up we will prepare our new studio album. Both in the recording studio and on tour - if we get back to touring - we will be playing with session guitarists, who are our friends, whom we know and like. But the line-up of Riverside will be as shown in the picture.
Yes, we do realise that this is not going to be the same band. We know that for many of you the story of Riverside ends here, this year, and that "Eye of the Soundscape" might be the last Riverside album you'll buy. We know that some of you can't imagine this band without the characteristic guitar of Piotr Grudziński and for you Riverside has ceased to exist. But our story is not over yet; with a flaw, with a scar, with a wealth of new experiences, we have decided to go on.
We know stories of many bands that have survived and have been successful, in spite of all. And we want to be the living proof that giving up is not an option and that we can be an inspiration for others, too. For as long as we can, we'll continue to do our best to create and meet with you wherever the emotions are running high. Grudzień will still be with us. We are definitely not going to forget him. He's a part of our lives. But in order for the memory of him to survive, we have to continue. And we want to. So we're embarking on another journey and we are thankful to everyone who will join us.
Our plans for the nearest future?
Next year we're going to start working on a new album. Marked by the circumstances, it will probably be a return to heavier and more intense sound. But before that, in February 2017, on the anniversary of Piotr's death, we'd like to play our first gig. A very special gig which will be an exceptional event. We'd like to play it with guests, with friends, for Piotr, for us. And for you. We'd like our music to be the hero of that day, we'd like to let it speak for itself. We'll give you more details about it in the coming weeks.
The river will never be the same again but it doesn't mean it has to stop flowing.
"Eye of the Soundscape" - a complimentary instrumental release - features 13 experimental and atmospheric compositions, including tracks previously used as bonus material for the "Shrine of New Generation Slaves" and "Love, Fear and the Time Machine" albums, rarities 2007/2008 (a new mix of Rapid Eye Movement and the single Rainbow Trip) and four new compositions ("Where The River Flows", "Shine", "Sleepwalkers" and "Eye Of The Soundscape" - over 30 minutes).
The album will be available as 2CD-Mediabook, 3LP (With both CD's as bonus) and Digital Download.
1. Where The River Flows (10:53)
2. Shine (4:09)
3. Rapid Eye Movement (2016 mix) (12:40)
4. Night Session - Part One (10:40)
5. Night Session - Part Two (11:35)
On October 21st, 2016Riverside will release a new album, the first instrumental, which is a compilation of songs from the years 2007 to 2015 as well as new tracks recorded at the beginning of 2016.
Mariusz Duda about the upcoming release:
"I had a feeling that the sixth RIVERSIDE album might be the last chapter of a story. That the future releases might have a different sound, a different character... Unofficially, I called our latest three albums "the crowd trilogy". Each subsequent title was longer by one word - four, five, six. Six words was long enough as a title and I thought that was the one to finish it off with...
Before we started a new chapter, perhaps a "new trilogy", I had an idea to release a complementary album. An album in between. An album we had always wanted to record. It wouldn't be just new music but in our case and in such configuration it would definitely be a new quality because we hadn't released such an album before.
For years, we have accumulated a lot of material, a part of which was released on bonus discs. I know that some of our listeners still haven't heard those pieces and do not realise that RIVERSIDE, basically right from the start, have been experimenting with ambient and progressive electronic music. And that's always been a part of our music DNA.
So I presented the idea to the rest of the band and the decision was unanimous.
We decided to make a compilation of all our instrumental and ambient pieces, and release it this year as an independent album. Some of the songs would be re-mixed to make them sound better, but most of all, we'd add new compositions.
At the beginning of the year, we locked ourselves in the studio and we started to compose. We even published a picture on our facebook page, in which Grudzien is holding a small keyboard as a joke. That was that recording session. We were working with smiles on our faces, genuinely excited, knowing that this time it wasn't just a bonus disc or an addition to something "bigger" but a fully fledged, independent release with that kind of music, full of space, trance, melodies and electronics. The day before I got a text message from Grudzien, "I really can't wait for this release, I have always had a dream for RIVERSIDE to release such an album."
"Eye Of The Soundscape" compiles all the special instrumental RIVERSIDE tracks previously used as bonus material for the "Shrine Of New Generation Slaves" and "Love, Fear and the Time Machine" albums, alongside rare cuts as well as 4 new songs ("Where The River Flows", "Shine", "Sleepwalkers" and "Eye Of The Soundscape") into a massive playing time of +100 minutes, which will be available as 2CD-Mediabook, 3LP (With both CD's as bonus) or Digital Download. The release again features cover artwork by Travis Smith and features 13 experimental and highly atmospheric compositions, which showcase RIVERSIDE's ambient electronic side.
It is worth recalling that on July 22 had it's premiere a new version of the album "Love, Fear and the Time Machine" - the first in history of the band 5.1 surround sound album, which is already available for purchase.
More details about „Eye of the Soundscape” to follow soon.
